Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils, the natural aromatic oils of plants, to support how you feel. You breathe the scent in, or apply a gently diluted blend to your skin. People use it to help them feel calmer, clearer or more settled. It supports wellbeing as part of a routine; it is not a medical treatment.
The word may be new, but the idea isn't. Scent has long been part of Nigerian life, from turaren wuta burned in homes to aromatic plants like scent leaf and uda. Modern aromatherapy uses essential oils, carefully diluted, at chosen moments of the day.
Not quite. Perfume is mainly about how you smell to others. Aromatherapy is about how a scent helps you feel, with each blend chosen for a purpose and used as a small ritual. If you already love perfume oils, you'll find aromatherapy easy to start.
No. Aromatherapy oils are used on the skin, diluted, or simply breathed in, and are never swallowed. They support calm and relaxation and don't treat illness. For any health concern, speak to a doctor.
Roll it onto your inner wrists and the back of your neck, cup your hands over your nose, and take three slow breaths. It takes about thirty seconds. Using the same blend at the same moment each day helps the scent become a cue your body recognises.
Apply it to warm areas such as your inner wrists, the back of your neck, behind your ears and, in the evening, the soles of your feet. Keep it away from your face, eyes and temples, and from broken or irritated skin.
Used as directed, diluted blends are suitable for most adults. Patch test on your inner forearm and wait 24 hours before regular use, never swallow essential oils, and keep them away from eyes and children. Stop if your skin reacts. Our Safety and usage page has the full guide.
Speak to your doctor or midwife first. Some essential oils aren't recommended in pregnancy, so check with a healthcare professional before using any aromatherapy product, including ours.
A roll-on is pocket-sized and quick, made for moments on the go. A massage body oil is for slower rituals: an evening massage, after a workout or after a shower. Many people use a roll-on by day and a body oil at night.
Used once a day, a 10 ml roll-on lasts several weeks, depending on how much you apply.
Choose the moment you most need a pause. Adagio Day is for a busy day, Con Amore for warmth and intimacy, Adagio Evening for when work ends, and Nocturne for lights out. Not sure? The Discovery Set brings all four together.
